28 years after the founding of the Knights of Columbus in New Haven Connecticut, Council 1471 was charted in Monroe. Charter 1471 was charted on April 17, 1910. The Sixth Supreme Knight, James A. Flaherty, who led the Knights of Columbus from 1909 - 1927 signed the document of incorporation which is hanging in Nilles Hall to this day. The names of the charter members of Council 1471 are listed on the charter. These names are members who were key in the building of our church and parish community. The last names of some of those members are Zuercher, Share, McGuire, Keegen, Monahan, Hyland, Teehan, Norton, O'Meara, Sullivan, Gibbons, Croake, Flanagan, McGrath, Fitzgibbons, Collins, Gettings, Hodges, Lamboley, and Whalen.
