St. Victor: 150th Anniversary

St. Victor Parish celebrates 150 years

Time is so relative. Time flies by for most of us. For us in America 150 years is a long time for ancestors and relatives from Europe, 150 years is a recent happening. For us we mark in the history of Green County and the history of our parish the beginnings of a new life and a new place to worship in 1860.

With Christmas 2009 we opened the year of celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of our parish. The beginnings of this parish are found within the beginnings of this community. Priests visited the Catholics of this community since its founding in 1858 and plans were made to purchase property for a church. You now are sitting on the property on the corner of Buchanan and Merchants Streets (14th street and 20th avenue) in Fosters addition to the village of Monroe.

We now have a lively parish in a wonderful community with a beautiful 116 year old gem of a Church. Our people have given the gift of Catholic education in our schools and faith formation throughout our history. We have served the poor and sick in our Catholic hospital. Monroe and our entire area have been made a far better place to live with presence of this great parish. Let us celebrate this amazing history and anniversary of faith!
